How I Started My Own Hemp CBD Company

Experiences That Sparked My Love For Cannabis

I’ll start by admitting that while living in Florida, I was a recreational marijuana user smoking occasionally. Until one day, I received test results stating I had “abnormal cells”. Unsure of what that meant, I did some research to find that these “abnormal cells'' could turn into cancer. So, I did more research on how to heal these cells holistically! I then went a whole year without fried food, ate less processed sugars and smoked more Mary Jane than ever. Yup, I said it.

One year later, I went back in for a follow up. Nervous to see the results, I was blessed to have good news…my cells were NORMAL!

What a blessing! A minor diet change and increased use of herbs clearly did something for me…I was convinced that this herb was a huge help.

On the flip side of cannabis was my first experience with hemp CBD. My dog would suffer from separation anxiety and I decided to give this therapeutic remedy a try. Sure enough, the herbs in the oil did something to help my dog feel blissfully calm…I was convinced yet again.

So, when I moved to LA, I decided to see where I could take my passion for cannabis! I ended up being the lead budtender at a fast growing, corporate cannabis dispensary chain. I also worked as an ambassador and saleswoman for individual brands.

Inspired to help those coming forth with serious questions, wanting serious answers, I took initiative to educate myself on cannabis reading PubMed articles, endless studies and educational YouTubes. I quickly learned the powers of the plant and my passion continued to grow.

Through all of these experiences, my knowledge about cannabis plants and the market for it grew tremendously! I loved learning about the plant, talking about the plant, and utilizing the plant. The one thing I didn’t love was working for companies that didn’t have the same intentions, motives and goals as me.

The Moment The Cannabiz Seed Was Planted

I was working two jobs at the time, one of them being a startup CBD company that ended up giving me an ultimatum…either work for them or continue training calisthenics with my team, the West Coast Warriorz.

I wanted to do both, but that wasn’t an option. I was told to choose one otherwise, I’d be fired. I chose both, so I left.

Shortly after while working at my other job, my friend and coworker, Tyler Durden, asked “Why don’t you just start your own company?”  My jaw dropped because the moment he suggested it was the moment I realized that I could do it… I just needed a boost. When I got home that day, I took a deep breath and got to work. Just like that, the seed was planted and I instantly started watering my garden.

How My Garden Grew Into A Flourishing Business

After determining my new path of entrepreneurship, I was on a roll. I couldn’t stop thinking about it to the point where I would daydream about branding ideas, legal aspects and company transparency. I even used the iPad at the hostess stand to study during the slow work hours at the restaurant Tyler and I worked at in LA…shh! It’ll be our secret.

After a year of highs and lows, friends who come and go, and endless obstacles thrown my way…I finally did it. I thought of a name, got my domain, and created my first ever LLC.

And even then, more highs and lows, friend who would come and go, and more obstacles than ever to overcome. It wasn’t until a whole year later that my website was public. I was aware of the steps I needed to take however, I was unaware of how long those steps would take me until they came.

With never ending lessons to be learned, I have survived my first official year of business making online sales, selling at local farmers markets and wholesaling to local shops around town.

My brand is a garden that’s growing abundantly everyday.

This is only the beginning, I pray you all are here to stay!
